Meaningful Memories

When I was 9 years old, I joined Santa’s Helpers to deliver food to people experiencing homelessness in the Hastings area. I still remember how small I felt walking in, not fully understanding the world around me, but wanting to help in any way I could. I was nervous at first, but the moment we started handing out food, something changed. I saw people smile, say thank you, and look at us with a kind of warmth I didn’t expect. Even as a kid, I realized that a simple act of kindness can make a real difference.

Looking back now at 17, that day is still one of the most meaningful memories of my childhood. Santa’s Helpers didn’t just give me a chance to help others — they taught me what compassion looks like, and how important it is to show up for people who need it. That experience shaped how I see the world and the kind of person I want to become.

Thank you, Santa’s Helpers, for giving a 9-year-old boy a moment that turned into a lifelong lesson. I’m grateful, and I’ll always carry that memory with me.
